Who can participate in PRRO races?

Any athlete may participate in the Circuit. For information on qualifying requirements and/or invitations to specific races, contact the appropriate invited athlete coordinator.

What are the rules to win the Circuit bonus?

Win one of the first four circuit races during the current circuit year--2013 Utica Boilermaker, 2014 World's Best 10K, 2014 Credit Union Cherry Blossom, 2014 Lilac Bloomsday Run--PLUS the Championship race at 2014 Utica Boilermaker, and you win the Circuit Purse (this is split if a male and female win it in the same year). When the purse is won, it resets the following year to $10,000. Each year it is not won, it grows by $5,000.

The PRRO "Bump Up Bonus"

PRRO has established an enhanced bonus payment pool, called the “Bump Up Bonus,” designed to reward athletes who win one of the first four PRRO circuit events listed above and place well in additional PRRO events listed above during the 2013-2014 PRRO season.

As in the past, athletes who win one of the first four 2013-2014 PRRO races leading up to the 2014 Uticl Boilermaker (2013 Boilermaker 15K, World’s Best 10K, Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile, and Lilac Bloomsday 12K) are eligible for the PRRO Championship at the 2014 Utica Boilermaker on July 13, 2014. In 2014 the Championship bonus is $15,000 ($7,500 each if both an eligible man and woman win at Boilermaker) on top of the Boilermaker prize money ($7,000 for first place).

The “Bump Up Bonus” provides an opportunity to win additional prize money by winning the Championship at Boilermaker. The Bump Up Bonus works as follows: First, as before, an athlete must win one of the first four PRRO circuit races leading up to the Championship to be eligible for the $15,000 Circuit Purse (split if an eligible male and female win at Boilermaker). In addition to winning one circuit race, if the athlete finishes in the top three at one of the first four non-championship circuit races, the athlete will have his or her bonus increased (if they win the Championship) by $5,000 for the first additional top three finish; by an additional $2,000 for the second top three finish; and $2,000 for the third additional top three finish. Athletes are thus eligible for up to $9,000 in Bump Up Bonuses, on top of the $15,000 Circuit Purse. This means each PRRO race winner could earn as much as $24,000 extra at Boilermaker if they win there. Two examples are provided below:

Example 1:
  • A male athlete finishes in the top three at the 2013 Boilermaker 15K – eligible for a $5,000 Bump Up Bonus
  • Same athlete finishes in the top three at the World’s Best 10K – eligible for an additional $2,000 Bump Up Bonus
  • Same athlete finishes in the top three at the Credit Union Cherry Blossom – eligible for an additional $2,000 Bump Up Bonus
  • Same athlete wins the Lilac Bloomsday 12K – this makes the athlete eligible to compete for the Circuit Purse (currently $15,000 for 2013-2014) and eligible to earn the three Bump Up Bonuses earned at the three earlier PRRO circuit events.
  • Same athlete wins the 2014 Boilermaker (and no eligible female athlete wins Boilermaker) – Athlete receives $7,000 first place Peachtree prize; $15,000 2013-2014 PRRO Championship Circuit Purse; $5,000 for first Bump Up Bonus earned at Boilermaker; $2,000 for second Bump Up Bonus earned at World’s Best 10K; $2,000 for third Bump Up Bonus earned at the Credit Union Cherry Blossom. Total earnings $31,000.

Example 2:

  • A female athlete wins the 2013 Boilermaker 15K – eligible to complete for the PRRO Circuit Purse at the 2014 Boilermaker and to earn Bump Up Bonuses during the remaining three non-Championship PRRO circuit events
  • Same athlete finishes sixth at the World’s Best 10K – no change in status
  • Same athlete finishes in top three at the Credit Union Cherry Blossom – eligible for a $5,000 Bump Up Bonus
  • Same athlete finishes in the top three at the Lilac Bloomsday – eligible for a $2,000 Bump Up Bonus.
  • Same athlete wins PRRO Circuit Championship at the 2014 Boilermaker (and an eligible male athlete also wins Boilermaker) – Athlete receives $7,000 first place Boilermaker prize; $7,500 PRRO Circuit Championship Purse (because prize money was split with the eligible male winner); $5,000 Bump Up Bonus earned at the Credit Union Cherry Blossom; $2,000 Bump Up Bonus earned at the Lilac Bloomsday 12K. Total earnings: $21,500.

Note: Runner must win one of the first four PRRO races to become eligible to compete for the Circuit Purse and any Bump Up Bonuses earned during the season, and must then win at the 2014 Utica Boilermaker to collect the Circuit Purse and any Bump Up Bonuses.

Note: Because the 2014 AJC Peachtree is hosting the U.S. 10K Championships, Bump-Up Bonuses do not apply, and winners are not eligible to compete for the Circuit bonus at Peachtree.
